(UPM Raflatac, Tampere, December 17, 2007) - UPM Raflatac is supplying hundreds of thousands of RFID inlays to METRO Group's Tag It Easy pilot program, which sees around 100 suppliers from China and Vietnam tagging goods destined for METRO's facilities in Germany. UPM Raflatac's UHF EPC Gen2 DogBone inlays are converted into four by six-inch labels and offered to suppliers via the online supplier portal called Metro Link.

The online ordering system provides a convenient way for Asian suppliers to adopt RFID technology at low cost. They place orders for pre-printed RFID labels that can be applied to shipments at the point of manufacture. The system integration and label encoding are carried out by Checkpoint Systems.

The Tag It Easy RFID pilot project, part of METRO Group's Advanced Logistics Asia initiative, aims to increase transparency and efficiency in the global supply chain and improve the logistic processes. The pilot covers a wide range of consumer products, from clothes to office equipment.

"UPM Raflatac's RFID tags are being used by METRO Group in various projects around the globe including Advanced Logistics Asia and a Galeria Kaufhof department store in Germany. We're very excited about delivering our globally functioning UHF inlays to the Tag It Easy pilot," says Mr Edward Lu, RFID Sales & Marketing Director, APAC, at UPM Raflatac.
